Active Bi-Xenon Lights

Intelligent Driver Information System
IDIS (Intelligent Driver Information System) continually monitors the movement of your car's steering wheel to determine if you're negotiating some difficult curves - any situation, in fact, that demands your full attention. If it detects you are, it will delay distracting information - incoming calls on the integrated cars phone, for example - until your drive becomes less demanding.
All Safety Belt Reminder
One of the most important safety features in your Volvo is the safety belt. Which is why our reminder system lets your know how many passengers in the rear seat have belted up.

Keyless Drive
As long as you have your key in your pocket or handbag, keyless drive lets you unlock your car just by grasping the door handle. To start the engine, just twist the starter control in the instrument panel. To lock all the doors, simply press the button in the door handle. Convenient? Definitely - and safer, too.

Transmission
The five or six-speed manual gearbox offers fast and precise gear change. Even if you prefer the more relaxed five-speed Geartronic automatic, you can still opt for manual gear change with the flip of the gear lever, allowing you to maintain a lower gear to bring up the revs or provide added braking when approaching a sharp bend.
All Wheel Drive
The electronically controlled all-wheel drive system employed by the T5 AWD delivers superb road holding on all surfaces. Power is channeled to the front and rear wheels according to the conditions.
High Performance Engines
The Volvo S40's engines balance power with efficiency, with low internal friction, electronic engine management, variable valve timing and common-rail direct injection all combining to deliver lively performance and modest fuel consumption.

Low Emission Levels

Volvo FlexiFuel
Enjoy all the performance you'd expect from a Volvo while reducing harmful emissions. The Volvo engine management system will adjust to the correct ratio, regardless of your E85 bio-ethanol mix with renewable-sourced ethanol which significantly reduces emissions of fossil carbon dioxide.
Interior Air Quality System
The S40's cabin filter prevents dust, exhaust particles and pollen from entering the car through its ventilation system. Add the optional Interior Air Quality System, and it will also check for certain unhealthy gases as carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide.
