At lower or higher speeds, the Volvo XC70 is well equipped to give any ordinary journey a total make over. A new six-cylinder engine and a five-cylinder direct-injection diesel are available to get the best out of the advanced chassis. And if a rugged road tries to get the best of you - the All-Wheel Drive, the new Hill Descent Control and the standard DSTC traction control system can make all the difference.

Hill Descent Control

For a smooth and controlled hill descent in the terrain or on steep rough roads, the Volvo XC70 has a new feature: Hill Descent Control. Simply push the HDC button and the vehicle will descend with control of each wheel's speed, so that you can concentrate fully on steering.

High Performance Engines

Smooth and strong, the new 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine is a highly compact unit developing all of 175kW. And the five-cylinder 2.4-litre direct-injection diesel turbo engine develops 136 kW and 400Nm over a wide speed range.

All-Wheel Drive and Geartronic

With four wheel drive capability for traction when you need it, and two wheel drive the rest of the time to cut down on fuel consumption, Volvo's AWD gives you the best of both worlds. For even more active driving, a new compact six-speed automatic transmission, Geartronic, has been developed to handle the high torques developed from the Volvo engines.

Prepared for the unforeseen

The safety and security features in the Volvo XC70 set a new standard. They include a strengthened safety cage, two-stage integrated child booster cushions as well as increased protection against smash and grab-burglaries and break-ins.

Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning

One system, but a package of benefits. By calculating the time gap between your Volvo XC70 and the traffic ahead, the Adaptive Cruise Control allows you to keep a constant safety distance between your car and that traffic. Then, should the traffic in front of you suddenly stop or slow down, Collision Warning and Brake Support will work to both alert you by sounding a warning and flashing a red light, and prepare your car for full braking.

Integrated Two-stage Child Booster Cushions

All children grow, so the new 2-stage integrated booster cushion is designed to seat children of different sizes. Using the cushion, children will also enjoy the extra protection of the new extended inflatable curtain - IC - and safety belts with specially adjusted force limiters, protecting the child by using just the right amount of tensioning force in an impact.

360 Degree Laminated Windows

To foil smash and grab burglaries, Volvo offers the first estates in the world with all-around laminated glass. This special glass provides protection against lightning attacks designed to hijack the car or steal items visible inside the cabin.

Design Features

Muscular and durable, the Volvo XC70 has a purposeful exterior design with long, dark rails which bind together the sleek front end with the functional and estate form at the rear. Inside, the XC70 has large cargo areas and harmonious cabin surfaces.

Personal Car Communicator

Volvo has developed its remote control system even further, and turned into an interactive tool which gives you, as the owner, control of your car from a distance. When in range, you'll always know the security state of your car and if anyone is inside it.

Park Assist Camera

Parking a car in a crowded space can be one of the hardest driving challenges - occasionally ending with an embarrassing bump or a costly scratch. The new Volvo parking aid system keeps track on what is happening behind the car, guides you along and makes straining your neck a thing of the past.

Clean Zone Interior Package - CZIP

Approved by the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association, the Volvo XC70's CZIP builds on the Interior Air Quality System to offer asthma or hay fever sufferers a real breath of fresh air. When the car is unlocked via remote control, the passenger compartment is automatically ventilated for about a minute (should the temperature be above 10 degrees Celsius) to 'flush' impurities from the cabin.

Tested for Harmful Substances

Making life more comfortable for people with allergies or asthma, upholsteries and interior textiles comply with a Oeko-Tex Standard 100 - an international benchmark ensuring that textiles and leathers are tested for certain allergy inducing or harmful substances.

Interior Air Quality System

The XC70's cabin filter prevents dust, exhaust particles and pollen from entering the car through its ventilation system. Add the optional Interior Air Quality System, and it will also check for certain unhealthy gases as carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide.
